The Suzuki Ertiga (Japanese: ?????????, Suzuki Erutiga) is a 7-seat mini MPV developed by the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki and its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki, built on the Swift subcompact car platform.
The first generation Ertiga was sold and rebadged in Indonesia as the Mazda VX-1, which is done by a non-manufacturer/assembler. Since 2016, the Ertiga is also sold in Malaysia as the Proton Ertiga.

First generation (2012-2018)
Overview
The Ertiga was first launched in India on 12 April 2012 and in Indonesia on 22 April 2012. It became available in South Africa on 9 June 2014 and in the Philippines on 17 July 2014. Maruti Suzuki proclaims it to be the first LUV (Life Utility Vehicle).
As it is based on the Swift, the Ertiga is a monocoque MPV; the first in India. It is also considered to be a cross between a saloon/hatchback and a MPV.
The Ertiga is said to be the production version of the R-III (R3) concept showcased by MSIL at the 2010 Indian Automobile Exposition. Moreover, the name Ertiga is said be an adaptation of R-Tiga where "Tiga" means "three" in Indonesian. The "R" stands for "rows". Therefore, "Ertiga" name is derived from "R3" which in turn means "(Swift with) Three Rows".
Engine
The Ertiga comes with two engine options; a 1.3-liter diesel DDiS and a 1.4-liter petrol VVT engine.
Petrol
The Ertiga K14B petrol engine is a 4-cylinder, 1,372 cc (84 cu in), DOHC, 16-valve engine equipped with VVT (variable valve timing) and made from lightweight aluminium. The engine has a 73 mm (2.9 in) bore and 82 mm (3.2 in) stroke and a compression ratio of 11.0:1. This engine produces 95 PS (70 kW; 94 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 130 N?m (96 lbf?ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm.
The engine uses drive-by-wire technology and supported the ECM (electronics control module) system. The fuel valve opening is controlled by a potentiometer sensor cable replacement gas.
Diesel
The Ertiga DDiS diesel engine is derived from Fiat's 1.3-liter Multijet engine. The engine is a 4-cylinder, 1,248 cc (76 cu in), DOHC, 16-valve engine. The engine has a 69.6 mm (2.7 in) bore and 82 mm (3.2 in) stroke and a compression ratio of 16.8:1. This engine produces 90 PS (66 kW; 89 hp) at 4,000 rpm and 200 N?m (150 lbf?ft) of torque at 1,750 rpm.
Markets
India
According to Maruti Suzuki, the Indian Ertiga was designed specifically for Indian consumers, unlike the other Maruti models which were designed for the global market. Maruti has marketed it as a "Life Utility Vehicle". 11,000 of these vehicles were ordered in India within five days.
In India, the Ertiga is available in both the alternatives of diesel and petrol variants. Though both of these engines were also seen doing duties earlier in various models, they are tweaked and retuned specifically for the car to provide fitting performance figures for its customers.
In June 2013, Maruti Suzuki added its Ertiga models with compressed natural gas (CNG). The Ertiga LXi and VXi have original factory converter kit and are provided with i-GPI (intelligent Gas Port Injection) which Maruti Suzuki claimed will achieve 22.8 km/L (64 mpg-imp; 54 mpg-US) premium-equivalent.
Indonesia
At the 20th Indonesia International Motor Show in 2012, three new concepts in the Ertiga's form are introduced, the Sporty, Luxury and Crossover version, which are actually Ertigas heavily modified into concept cars. The normal version, in this case the GX variant, also appeared.
After the trouble between worker unions at the Maruti Suzuki Plant in India, plans are being made to transfer the building plant to Indonesia, as most of the orders are from the country.
The Ertiga sold 109,461 units in two years, with selling record over Toyota Avanza in one year. The Ertiga is also offered in diesel variant, which is imported from India and only comes in manual transmission option.
Ertiga Dreza
On 8 January 2016, Suzuki launched a new flagship variant of the Ertiga, called Dreza. It gets a different front fascia from regular variants, different wheel design, and specific colour option. The interior gets a different seat upholstery, wooden panel on the dashboard, and an 8-inch touchscreen audio system.
Philippines
The Ertiga entered the Phillipines market in 2014.
South Africa
The Ertiga is the brand's first MPV-type vehicle in South Africa. However the company claims the Ertiga as a Life Utility Vehicle and also claims its aimed at being practical, while retaining the fun-to-drive characteristics on the popular Swift.
The Ertiga is the second made-in-India product in Suzuki South Africa's portfolio, the first one being the older Alto (A-Star). The South Africa-spec Ertiga is available only with a 1.4-liter petrol engine. The transmissions options are 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic unit.
2016 update
The Ertiga gets updated in India on 16 October 2015. Along with the diesel versions of the updated Ertiga comes with hybrid technology by Suzuki called as SHVS.
Proton Ertiga
The Proton Ertiga is a rebadged Ertiga for Malaysian market by Proton. It was launched on 24 November 2016, at the press conference at the Setia City Convention Centre, Setia Alam, Selangor. It is Proton's fourth model to be launched in a six-month span. It is Malaysia's first mini MPV that qualifies for Malaysia's EEV emissions standard. It can sit up to seven people, but because the middle row middle seat only features a lap belt, it is classified as a six-seater with a 2-2-2 configuration. It uses the same 1.4-liter petrol engine as the Suzuki's Ertiga.

Second generation (2018-present)
The second generation Ertiga was unveiled at the 26th Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta, Indonesia on 19 April 2018. It is built on the 'HEARTECT' platform which is the same lightweight platform used for the production of hatchbacks Baleno, Ignis and Swift. It went on sale in May 2018.
